Canyon Velo Group Ride Practices
- Safety is the first priority – keep in mind that each rider is riding for the safety of those behind them
- Maintain speeds that match the safety conditions of the moment
- Communicate both verbally and visually (hand signals)
- Keep your eyes on the road and riders in front of you
- Be predictable and consistent (reduce or eliminate sudden unannounced actions)
- Hold your line (ride in straight line and maintain proper arc in turns)
- Do not overlap your front wheel with another rider’s back wheel
- Pass other riders/groups in safe predictable manner with verbal/visible communication of intentions
- Point out and announce hazards including upcoming turns, stops, road surface changes, road debris, other riders, vehicles, pedestrians, etc.
- Maintain the pace of the group by adjusting your time at the front, not your speed
- Keep your hands on the handlebars
- Limit your use of the brakes to appropriate times
- Obey traffic laws, signals, and stop signs
- Be on time and prepared at the start of group rides
- Carry ID
- Wear a helmet and appropriate kit
- Bike must be well maintained
- Never ride with headphones
- Riders new to the group should remain at the back
