Tour de Cure 2015 A Huge Success

TdCure2015Canyon Velo’s 21st year participating in the Tour de Cure set a new club record for fund raising. Our team of ten riders raised $8,804 for the American Diabetes Association. This included $1,500 in matching funds from the club treasury. This placed us in 5th place in the Club/Organization Team category just behind Boy Scout Troup 860. The Major Motion cycling club was first with a total of $18,085. The top fund raising team overall was the Northrop Grumman corporate team (Team Skunk Works) with $34,046.

Mulholland Double Staff Ride

We started at 4:35 am heading toward the coast from Thousand Oaks, temperatures going down the first part of Malibu Canyon were in the mid 30’s, it’s not so bad climbing, but descending is almost painful. Going south on PCH toward Santa Monica we hit our first climb of the day, New Topanga, and then Old Topanga which would take us through the town of Calabasas, eventually making the turn west on Mulholland Hwy.

Race Season Is Around the Corner

The 2014 race season is fast approaching, and in addition to the ever-popular State Championship events and time trial series’, there are several events that usually draw lots of Canyon Velo club members. First and foremost is our own annual race, the Roger Millikan Memorial Criterium on Sunday February 9. This is the club’s primary supply of funding for the year, and our only sponsored event. We need club members and family members to volunteer to help out. Pat Meagher will again serve as Volunteer Coordinator. Thanks Pat for all you do! Solvang Century – A Day To Remember

Scenic2LRCanyon Velo had a sizeable contingent in the annual Solvang Century held on March 10. For some, this is an annual trek north to escape the hectic freeway-laden world of Los Angeles, spend some quality time with a loved one, and breathe in fresh air filled with the scents of Danish pastries and candy. For others, it’s an early season test of one’s strength and endurance. A low-key way to test the legs. How are they compared to last spring?
